So, on Sunday I left all the ironmongery at home. No Hauberk. No coif. No Great helm. No gambeson or arming cap.

Then, at the Con, I met this young man who put me to shame...

...in his almost full set of steel armour.

He says he is going to be there next year as well.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. Full 11th Century Crusader set it is.

It's not as heavy as you may think. He was able to move around pretty easily, other than it being a bit bulky in places.
The principle problem is heat retention. This young man was sweating buckets with it all on. Most of the time he took his helmet, coif and cap off in order to cool down.
