Lol

@lolin you have an exam? I didn't know you were doing school. Or maybe I did and forgot.

I just bought a new painting

  Spoiler:
Image

I like it. It has great light and shadows while still colorful and naturey. That's the kinda thing I like best.

I went to the habitat for humanity thrift store and they have so much stuff there omg. Pretty decent art collection for a thrift store. That's where I got this.
I was going initially for a large picture frame so I can frame a big wheel of time map that I bought online. But I forgot my measuring tape and didn't know exactly.
I bought two frames, well, one frame alone for $20 and another full frame, glass, and the other bits and bobs with an artwork inside it for $55. I guess it's a painting. Except not a painting, I assume it's like a print that was mass produced like 20 years ago. I only bought it for the frame because it looked about the right size and I thought the frame color would work.
Brought those two frames home, and the cheaper frame was the perfect size and now I have another piece of art that I'm not particularly enamored of.
  Spoiler:
Image
What will I do with it? I have an idea of making my own digital map of Yurgenschmidt, the country from Ascendance of a Bookworm with kind of a political chart and character portraits. I think that'd be cool. Well, if I do that, I think that would be a nice big frame to put it in. I'd make it landscape.
But the art? I guess I'll throw it away. I don't see any value in it. Generic ass shit, who puts that on walls?

Anyway for my map of wheel of time I have to buy a piece of glass for the frame that fit it and then find some cardboard backing and put that together. The frame's a little dinged but it's probably fine. I'll consider it next I do it.
I started rearranging my walls because I also have a quilted wall hanging my mother gave me for christmas that I want to put up but I could not find my level. Where the fuck did I put my level.
I'm going to my mother's for board games tomorrow and I plan to borrow her laser level then. That'll be better anyway. So I put my wall decorations on hold again.

Oh, habitat for humanity also had a lazy boy and a sofa that I think might match but they're in different parts of the store but they're both nice and they have a sale and I'm going to try to get them. I have to arrange transportation for them on monday--gonna try to pay the warehouse kid to help with his truck. I have a couch and a chair and a matching ottoman but they're so hard to sit on and I'd like a new sofa set and I think I'd only pay about $600 for it, so it's probably a perfect chance as long as I can get them both. I'd also have to have dude help with getting the old stuff to the dump. Unless he wants them.

It's just one class at a community college, all I can afford at the moment. Philosophy 101, trying to knock out the general education credits so I can just transfer anywhere with a basic Associate's.

Reasonable.

I actually enjoy philosophy. That was a fun class for me.

I may have woken up late today but I got out and went shopping, cleaned the kitchen, and did all my laundry. It's a pretty good saturday.

I cannot sleep so I took a shower and looked through mail and opened my shipment of tea.

  Spoiler:
Image
I think I have enough puerh tea for a while.
This is a different brand after all I think, than the last pound I got. Im pretty sure what I got last time was 2016 harvest and this says 1998 harvest, so apparently this is aged 18 more years. But it's still shou puerh, the "quick" type that mixes in already-fermented tea to jumpstart the fermentation.
Oh, come to think of it the little novelty puerh cakes I bought say sheng puerh, so they're not the quick type. Hmm which one should I try tomorrow morning?
I'm still not tired. What do I do.

I woke up earlier than I should have. I think I fell asleep around 4:30 AM and woke up around 9:15. That's less than 5 hours.
But I feel great actually. Better than I usually do waking up. I don't feel tired. Shit, sometimes I can get 7 hours of sleep and feel tired. I wonder what the difference is.

Anyway, this morning I decided to try sheng puerh for the first time. I bought these little novelty 'cupcakes' which are basically large tablets of pressed tea. I have no idea how much to use--I think a full tablet is for a teapot, so I'm going to cut a third of one for my cup of tea.

  Spoiler:
Image

Damn that thing's a bitch to cut. That's not viable in a morning routine. I half wondered if it damaged my knife.

  Spoiler:
Image

That looks like weak tea to me. The shou puerh I usually make is so dark it's practically thickened.

But jesus it's so bitter. Not in a harsh way I think. Maybe it's just a part of its character. I would expect bitterness from oversteeping some teas, and it's true I left it in there carelessly for like at least 7 minutes or something, but I do that with my puerh usually and it doesn't seem to care, but maybe this tea is more picky.
I don't super like bitterness in tea. Next time I'll have to use that 2/3 remainder and steep it for just 3 minutes and see how that goes.
It's actually a strong flavor though, and an even stronger aroma. The bag says notes of apple, sour plum, and wood. Hmmmm mostly I just taste bitterness. It smells spicy and unique though. Maybe I really did oversteep it.
Let's try adding oat milk.
Ooooh, nutty. This taste is straight up like black walnuts--you expect bitterness from black walnuts. That's not bad. It's thick too. Now I get the clay flavor that's common in puerh too.
And now let's try adding sugar.
Hmm.
Hmmm.
Now I taste the apple and wood flavors it mentioned. Sugar didn't ruin it. Did it improve it? I'm not sure. It's just different. The bitterness is still there but muted and the nuttiness is still there which is really good. I think there might be something that the sugar detracted from it but I suspect oversteeping it really did damage the flavor and I'll just have to see when I'm more careful with the 2/3.

So far not bad though. It's a bit more aromatic than I'd like in the mornings but the flavor is a new experience and not an entirely bad one. I wonder if that stronger flavor/aroma is because it's sheng, or if it's just this particular product. It's definitely deeper into "acquired taste" zone compared to the dried shou puerh I often use.
I think the 1/3 was actually not a weak tea. It looked weaker than I'm used to with shou puerh, but the taste was strong enough that I bet I used more than enough. I'll use that 2/3 piece next time because seriously, fuck cutting these things, but that piece might be too much for a single cup. I guess I'll just use as much water as I can.
Hmm. I suppose if I'm not going to cut these things ever again then I'll need a teapot before I make this tea with a full cake. I've been meaning to buy a gaiwan anyway. I wonder where I should buy it from. Well, fuck it, I don't know much about gaiwans so I'll buy it from amazon. I'll read some reviews this morning and go from there.

Well no I'll read gaiwan reviews later. I feel like playing games now. I've started playing XCOM 2 again. My first play through was the long war 2 mod. I played long war for XCOM:EU and like it much better. My second attempt at a playthrough was War of the Chosen but I didn't like WOTC. Now there's a "Long War of the Chosen" mod and...it's good. I like this. So that's what I'm playing right now.
I now have 845 hours on steam. I wonder if I've played it more than minecraft now.
Heh, probably not. I spent a lot of time on minecraft back in the day, while it was still in beta.

Gaiwans are too fucking small. I bought this instead

@Naughty Kitty what city in California do you live in?
I only ask because while I'm in North Carolina now, I've lived most of my life in California and have opinions on many places there.

@Naughty Kitty Ah I see.
Most foresty places are either northern california proper or the Sierras. Northern california is...hit or miss. Some great places and some shitty places.
Now the Sierras, that's probably the best part of California and one of the best places in the country.

Nothing?
Most places don't make people who they are.

Pasadena's not bad for LA as far as I can tell. Awful to drive in, but last I was there there was lots of cool stores and good mix of culture in, as far as I could tell, a good way.
Granted it is in LA. Anything in LA has to be characterized by how long it takes to drive anywhere. It'd be shitty to live there.

Is it worth paying 100 for a 15cm figure?
Probably not.... Most definitely not. No way.

The mind says no, don't be stupid.
The heart say yes, fuck it.

^^;;;;

The mind says, that 100 could go towards buying that new bed you actually need.
The heart says why not buy both? Tis not like you have anything else going for you, treat yourself whilst you actually can.

As an adult making decisions is very difficult.
I wish I was a kid again, it would have been easy to say fuck it I want the toy dammit! XD

That is the stupidity that's going to keep me up tonight heh.

I do like my niko plush.
But it was only like $20-30.
I'd say don't buy it but then, I don't know what it looks like.

Why do you need a new bed? What parts of the bed do you need?

I made relatively easy tonkotsu ramen tonight.
My tonkotsu base is decent.
I still suck at boiling/peeling eggs
It needs greens.
I should make some of that garlic/ginger/chili oil mixture to put in it. I neglected garlic, had pickled sushi ginger which isn't the same, but I did add chili oil and that was good

My bed is falling to bits, it's just a cheap ass metal frame and it's all wobbly and what not.
I've fixed it a few times before and it's quite old, so I think it's probably about time I get a new one.

Just had my introduction to Perl CPAN.

Image

I didn't think many things about perl before but I thought it was at least portable. Now I know developers back then also created a dependency hell.

Fuck fuck fuck I should have taken a copy of this hard drive before doing this. Hell, simply not working is the best case scenario now. Worst case scenario I broke something else that was previously working in this old ass system.

Seriously I understand wanting to abstract work to not reinvent the wheel, but npm takes it too far to where who the fuck knows how long anything will work correctly.

I'm about to find out if perl CPAN is the same, and probably the hard way.

Yes that figure is perfect for you.

Buy it now and you'd have a perfect figure.

That's my best attempt at salesmanship.
