Gaius the great sage has reached the pinnacle of his ability with the third crest, but one cannot change the crest you're born with.
So he decided to reincarnate.

Several thousand years have passed, and he is reborn as Mathias Hildesheimr - and he now has his desired fourth crest.

But in this time, somehow the fourth crest has been maligned, referred to as the "weakest crest." On purpose. An old foe he thought defeated has returned, determined to weaken humanity's power by twisting the teachings of magic to their favor.

I've watched the first four episodes of this anime on Crunchyroll:

"The Strongest Sage Appears."

"The Strongest Sage Infiltrates."

So, my question is - have you watched this, and what is your impression of this anime?

I have started watching, and completed Ep 1.

A lot of back story missed when compared to the LN, and they galloped into the Academy Competition as well. I suppose they wanted to get the story moving along.

Yeah, there's often a lot of trimming. Hoping Mattias repaired the headmaster's sword after Iris got ahold of it.

Ep 2 down. Still a ridiculous storyline. A glimmer of hope when he thinks "It will be hard to beat with my current magic power" and then beats the cr** out of the floor boss with no trouble. I suppose it does illustrate that knowledge is equally important as power.

Matty finally encounters some "opponents" that test his metal, and an enemy that proves overpowering.

Just got to wait for the finale.
