Japanese culture
I love Japanese culture. The food is amazing I could honestly eat Ramen all day lol, some of my favourite bands are Japanese AKG, Maximum the Hormone, Unlucky Morpheus and I even had Gotsu Totsu Kotsu to play at my birthday gig several years ago. Japanese cinema is also far superior to what's made in Hollywood in particular horror and action films. I'm also a huge fan of the old Akira Kurosawa samurai films

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

as much as i love Japanese culture, there are a few aspects of it which i really disagree with, which includes:-
- Tentacle rape hentai: why is it that in 99% of hentai series, the sex scenes revolve around the female character getting raped, eww! why can't hentai sex ever be consensual? D:
- School Girls: once again, why are girls in school uniforms so heavily sexualised in Japanese? They're wearing a school uniform meaning that they should be out of bounds when it comes to sex, but apparently this doesn't matter in Japan!
there are a couple of examples, I could list moar but those 2 are probably my biggest issues with Japanese culture... sorry, Japan lovers ;A;!

I think the idea is to elide the male presence. Because why would you want to watch a random bloke shag a girl you like? And it can't be consensual because who wants and perverted slut who enjoys being violated by tentacles? So obviously tentacle rape is the only logical conclusion.melanch0lic wrote: ↑25 Sep 2020, 19:13- Tentacle rape hentai: why is it that in 99% of hentai series, the sex scenes revolve around the female character getting raped, eww! why can't hentai sex ever be consensual? Cruel facts of biology mean that youth and fertility is much more important in women. Japan does take it to an extreme though, unmarried girls over 26 are called Christmas Cakes, because they are too old nobody wants them. Which is insane of course. The other sticky thing about Japanese culture is the way there's such a fuzzy line between cute and sexy. Those two things together can beget a slippery slope into pedophilia unfortunately. In Japan's defence though, those school uniforms are worn all the way up to university. So it's not as gross as perving over school uniforms that girls only wear until 16 in our barbaric gaijin country.melanch0lic wrote: ↑25 Sep 2020, 19:13- School Girls: once again, why are girls in school uniforms so heavily sexualised in Japanese? idk why i have such a problem with tentacle rape, it just puts me off because i imagine a real woman being violated in such a way, i wouldn't call the female characters sluts - i'd call them victims, especially in the likes of La Blue Girl and such, although that example seems to be purely based on tentacle rape, to the point that it's almost comical but whenever i see it my boner goes way down, but each to their own i guess! c:

Nah, I'm with you there. I don't get the sadism stuff either. We're just too chivalrous I guess.melanch0lic wrote: ↑30 Sep 2020, 20:20idk why i have such a problem with tentacle rape, it just puts me off because i imagine a real woman being violated in such a way,

I meant they'd be sluts if they enjoyed it, that's why it has to be rape. I'm also kidding anyway. A lot of weird stuff like this probably just comes down to accidents of evolution that got embedded in male brains. Intellectualizing it doesn't really help.melanch0lic wrote: ↑30 Sep 2020, 20:20i wouldn't call the female characters sluts - i'd call them victims,

Never got the whole tentacle thing tbh, very weird indeed. Unrelated but sort of related (to Japanese culture not tentacle porn haha), was debating on getting the J-League 2 team, FC Ryukyu football shirt, but the price of £170 really put me off, so I might purchase Japans national football team shirt instead, granted its still pricey but nowhere near as pricey as FC Ryukyu's shirt.

Ouch, that is pretty steep. They can't be that much locally, it might be cheaper to just fly out there and buy it in personKarateKa83 wrote: ↑02 Oct 2020, 13:44Never got the whole tentacle thing tbh, very weird indeed. I've actually decided to try and learn Japanese as a language. Partly so that when I eventually go, I don't need to be that typical "shout & point" English man and also so that I no longer have to bloody read subtitles or wait for the dubs.
I know it's supposed to be damn bloody difficult to read and write but I've heard that being able to talk and understand is relatively easy to pick up if you're committed.

The app Duolingo is pretty awesome for the basics! i also found the 'Japanese from zero' books really useful

My first single 'Afterlife/Superhighway' (feat. Hatsune Miku) is out now on Spotify and Bandcamp (^^)
