Nah it's a thing, called confirmation bias. People are more likely to believe ideas that fit into their personal beliefs and to throw out ideas that invalidate their beliefs.

People can get past confirmation bias, but you have to be aware of it.

Well let's face it, I'm not going to have the urge to summarise Plato's cave theory as soon as I wake up and still feeling sleepy any time soon so I wouldn't go there if I'm honest hahaha
