Gotta turn the crank.
I was gonna do another episode of "On Atoms and Neutrons" but for the moment I'm not feeling it.
Life's good right now.
One major project we have going on is fixing the basement.
It's not broken, per se, but it was in a state.
Before selling the house, the previous owners painted. I think they probably just used whatever they found on the discounted paint rack at Lowes, because the color schemes throughout were unpleasant.
The main floor was like peach and salmon, the bedroom was white with a deep red "accent wall", and unfortunately the entire basement was like a light (but vibrant!) yellow and a deep olive green.
Together, the paint very closely resembled something you'd find in your bathroom after a night of puking.
In addition to this unpleasant combination, the basement felt dark and dungeonesque because of the darker colors.
We played around with the idea of some light greys to brighten them up, but they all still felt dark. So we settled on an incandescent white that's gonna show dirt like nobody's business, but makes the space livable.
We finished one area this weekend: the family room. This has our big TV, which has been retired for months as we were painting.
You see, those colors (and especially that green) were so dark they required like 6 coats of paint+primer to finally mask. I think we might have been less frustrated to have just torn down and rehing the drywall.
That, plus the fact that we just didn't want to do it, prolapse it quite a long time. The rest of the main area of the basement is nearing completion.
Then we get to paint the downstairs bedroom, which will ultimately become my office. I am currently in the loft, but it's not private enough and too hot in n the summer. So I'm moving downstairs where it's cooler and where I'd have doors.
Anyway that's probably a good update for now.

Wow that is some...uh..interesting design choices they went for there
6 coats to cover? That's insane. I had to paint 3 layers of primer over a dark purple wall at ours and that was tough so feel for you there!

All Things in Moderation [Jas]
Yeah, it was insane. If the walls were all the same color to start with, we might have gotten away with three coats. You could still see a tinge of the green after 3 coats but if it was uniform I might have been able to live with that (Jenna maybe not as much).
But since the yellow walls held the white a little better, it was noticeable.

Hm, I wonder why no one ever posts in here.
