I have played it post-hoc but it doesn't hold the magic that playing Nintendo games gave to me, because I was discovering the world of video games through those instead of through Sega.

Nah I get ya. My childhood was when Sonic made the jump to Nintendo, so even though I was a nintendo kid I grew up with the gamecube sonic remakes, and the advance games
