Re: [bingefest] kingdom
ep 50
Ouhon-tai's siege tower!
In medieval war stories we always see battering rams.
These chinese walls seem gigantic though. And that siege tower is beasty--the walls of that thing must be at least 6" thick so it must weight several tons at least. If Qin can engineer wheels to support that thing, maybe Wei can engineer gates thick enough to make battering rams an unattractive option.

Re: [bingefest] kingdom

Haha yes
I remembered correctly. Ou Sen is my favorite general. There were two moves of his that I especially liked, and this is one of them. With Ren Pa needing to overpower one flank to force the Qin main army to fight Rin Ko and let Rin Ko take Mou Gou's head, he absolutely needed the right flank especially since his left flank was already stalled by Kanki. But then Ousen outmaneuvers him on several levels and unveils this fort. Ren Pa has no choice but to besiege it, but then the right flank is stalled too and Rin Ko can't have the support he needs.
Unless... It doesn't take many soldiers to besiege a castle. What if Ren Pa splits the army and sends half into Qin's left flank?
Well, no, the other fact of siege is that the besiegers must spread themselves thin to encircle a large castle, and that's certainly true in this case. So Ou Sen could break the encirclement if the Wei troops are halved.
This terrain is super unrealistic lol. Terrain's a real factor of course, this is just exaggerated to be obvious I guess. But anyway.
From that picture it looks like there's only two entrances to this valley. Wei only has to guard two points to lock in Ou Sen. Half their army could probably do that.
Let's see, at this point Ou Sen has 10,000 and Ren Pa has 8,000, if Heki was correct, but there had to have been troops setting up these defenses, so let's say 11,000 to 8,000. Half of Wei guarding two entrances is 2,000 per entrance--3,000 if lopsided. No, 11,000 could trample them in any case. Ren Pa has to devote significant troops to hold Ou Sen. Ou Sen can see if he places any traps, too, and can interfere at will. Ren Pa really can't press on to outflank the Qin main army.
Yes, the Qin left flank/Wei right flank is definitely stalemated. What will Ren Pa do now?
Who's that guy on the other flank?
Jishi or something *looks it up* Kai Shi Bou. The only reason he's stalled is that he's not sure where Kanki is again and can't be sure what he'll do. Which makes sense. Kanki is difficult to deal with in this terrain, and we already saw that Kai Shi Bou is not a strategist that can handle Kanki.
That said, the old guy's strategy on the earlier day of the battle with the smokescreen got Qin's main army pretty good. The Wei main army probably has a numerical advantage now. So even if Ren Pa's flanking strategy has been rendered impossible, things aren't looking super great for Qin just yet.
Let's see what happens.
This show has ruined all other military anime for me. This is the best.

I really liked Kanki at Kankoku pass. I haven't gotten there yet though.
Wait is that even in the anime yet or is that season 3? No, that wasn't animated iirc. Maybe that's what you're talking about.
it'll be awesome to see Kankoku pass animated.
