What do you think about transhumanism?

Post by unoduetre » 01 Mar 2020, 08:00

Transhumanism is an idea that at some point science and technology can fundamentally change what it means to be human.

E.g. it might become possible to grow additional limbs or animal parts (cat ears anyone?) or get some "superpowers" or to integrate some mechanical or nanotechnological devices into humans or even transfer minds into machines or computer-generated worlds.

What do you think about it? Would you like to become a transhuman? Or maybe you'd prefer to stay as you are today?

Do you think it's a good thing or a bad thing for humanity?

I don't have any strong opinions about it, so I'd like to know what you think.

I do like the idea of advancement, although I worry about the wrong type of people "advancing," racists, terrorists, and the like for example. But then we could have "super heroes" to stop them. *lol* I like the idea of being a meta human myself.

Are there any specific "enhancements" you would like to have?

I'm not against it as long as the human race doesn't end up looking like this

yeah it's a borg drone. his designation is third of five but when he's unassimilated he calls himself hugh. captain Picard severs his link to the collective and they remove all the borg implants. In Star Trek : Picard he's the head of the borg reclamation unit on board a derelict borg cube in romulan space.

Well enhanced vision for starters. and maybe AR displayed in my vision also (like the major from ghost in the shell). Would be handy to be able to look at something and then in my peripheral vision information about what i'm looking at in real time.

I'd love to be part machine. Or even entirely mechanical. The amount of times a day I think "Damn it, I could do with a 3rd arm" is far greater than I can keep track of.

I'd have a swiss-army penis.
"Every position must be held to the last man: there must be no retirement. With our backs to the wall and believing in the justice of our cause, each one of us must fight on to the end."

Earl Douglas Haig, Order to the British Army, 12 April 1918

So death, the most terrifying of ills, is nothing to us, since so long as we exist, death is not with us; but when death comes, then we do not exist. It does not then concern either the living or the dead, since the former it is not, and the latter are no more.

Any implant or technical enhancement that helps human development is all good in my eyes. Especially anything that may help people overcome physical disabilities or any debilitating illness. Even beyond that I'd support cognitive enhancement that help humanity solve great problems or further scientific endeavour.

I feel like having heightened intelligence to help me pick up skills quickly (and cash in on them) might be nice. Maybe the power of having premonitions too, also for the sake of cashing in. I do enjoy money. *lol*
