Urged on by her friend, Kaede Honjō begins playing the VRMMORPG NewWorld Online. Not wanting to get hurt, she creates a shielder-class avatar named Maple and starts putting every status point she earns into increasing her defense stats. Despite this leaving her with slow movement and no magic, her high defense allows her to endure most hits without taking any damage. As a result, she earns all new kinds of skills and becomes one of the most powerful players in the game.

Maple and Sally fought a boss the developers specifically designed to be unbeatable. Many players lost to it. Maple and Sally nearly got wiped out themselves. Maple was even hit down to 1 HP. Which earned her a unique Great Shielder skill that can only be used once per day when the Great Shielder is at 1 HP. So they got lucky because they would have lost without Maple getting it. It was fairly intense battle.

Anyways they got cute monster eggs. Maple got a Turtle from hers and Sally got a Fox. lol, it suits their characters and personality too. Sally is really fast and Maple is abnormally slow.

This series is based on a light novel, the name pretty much says that. Unfortunately it isn't currently planned to be translated and become available for English readers.

I'm sure this Light Novel is fantastic too. >_<

The first episode is what hooked me, and I just wanted to see what else Maple would do. She's a strange one, by the way.

Maple seen a Great Shielder that had impressive looking gear, she still only had the starting gear. So she asked him where he got it. He said it was custom made and introduce her to a Crafter. Maple discovered she definitely need not have the funds to make one herself. The Crafter pointed out a place she could go to earn some coins. Unbeknownst to them, Maple just went there Solo, they expected her to form a party.

Anyways story short, she had to fight the boss with starting equipment which just used poison attacks. Luckily Maple had a stash of healing potions and getting hit repeatedly by the same attack will boost your resistance to it, and yes Maple managed to get immunity to poison with her last potion.

I'd that's expected of a main character though, somehow pulling through an impossible battle, no? Problem is the poison completely destroyed her shield and short sword too, so she had no way of fight back either.

Maple ended up taking a bite of it and figured it actually did damage, so she literally started eating it. Finally doing enough damage to defeat it. She even managed to get the skill to use all the poison dragon's attacks.

Other players are definitely not immune to poison. Maple has eaten other monsters since too.

By the way Maple is serious about not getting hurt, she has 0 in every stat except vitality which boosts her defense. Because of this she even got other skills that helps boosts her Vitality further. Every time she levels up she pours all her points into Vitality. But she isn't strong or fast, she's incredibly slow. She can't even run, people walk faster than she can run.

Lucky for Maple there's equipment that boosts the other stats. She doesn't have any boosts for Agility though. So besides Agility and Dexterity her stats aren't actually 0.

The other main character so far is Sally, the friend that convinced Maple to play, Maple has never played video games before. Sally is a pro at it and has awards for it, she has played a bunch.

Sally chose to play as a swashbuckler and emphases speed so she can evade and make fast attacks.
Sally unlike Maple chose to put nothing in Vitality, and put a few points in other stats, while mainly pumping up her Agility. Sally is really fast, and poor Maple can't really keep up with her friend in the game.

I think the art is pretty good in this one. Yeah, the art and animation might be better than average.

I think the pacing and story are only suiable for casual enjoyment. It's enjoyable but definitely not a plot powerhouse.

Just finished episode 6

They made a guild and recruited 6 members. The Great Sheilder, The Crafter, The Swords woman, the wizard with the cube, and the two sisters who maxed out their attack.

Maple was elected to be the Guild Master. Maple named the Guild ‘Maple Tree’. It’s a tree in the forest too. I like it, it’s neat.

I’m sure others already know about Syrup, Maple’s Pet Monster. Cool flying giant turtle. By the way Maple’s nick changed. Instead of being known as the Walking Fortress, she is now known as the Flying Fortress. What a neat way to be known. Yeah, Maple is clueless about her fame and nick as a player.

So all the characters it shows in the opening song with Maple are the Guild Members.
