Ran out of stain. Couldn't get to two big structural pieces of the upper frame (the shelves' backing--it's important for shear strength), so it looks like it's not going home tonight. I suppose I can take the platform home though.

Yeah. I'll get it all stained and transported in the next two days. If I can do poly coating here, then I should be able to assemble it all next week.
Not including drawers. I think the drawers can wait until next year. I'll just have open spaces I can stuff stuff into.

That's what I get for cutting the bottoms. I wonder if itdve been better to cut the tops instead.
I can fix it after christmas anyway, when I put the drawers in.

Oh wow it’s amazing
Question why are you making a Bunk Bed for yourself? And not just one large adult bed?

The upper bunk is storage 98% of the time and a guest bed for when my college friends visit.

Actually that's the felt piece I was sewing. It's not as important there but that looks nicer than the very low grade plywood.

Some observations:
I should buy a piece of foam to fill this.
For now I put boxes in this space. It's a nice space for boxes.
Theres also extra room on the main mattress. I don't know how I did this--must have measured the mattress wrong. Or did I look it up based on queen size? Idk. Anyway I might put in a little headboard shelf eventually. That'd be p sweet. Better than planned.
So it's assembled. Tomorrow I poly coat.
So far it feels like this thing traps heat like a motherfucker. I won't need the thermostat so high anymore.

Thank you.
And I never actually answered the fabric question: the felt on the walls is so that nothing can be dropped behind the bed--its attached to the wall and is stapled to the platform so the mattress sits on it. So from either bunk, if something is dropped, it won't fall to a place you can't get to.
I like my cave.
