Not to paraphrase a popular social media meme: but some of the Americans on this site clearly haven't drank into the next afternoon, and it shows

I don't use messenger, normally it's the panic of other notifications that I worry about.

Hah yeah.
There's 2 ways to deal with it.
1) Keep putting off looking at any notification.
2) Drink again so that you don't care what the notification was.
"Every position must be held to the last man: there must be no retirement. With our backs to the wall and believing in the justice of our cause, each one of us must fight on to the end."
Earl Douglas Haig, Order to the British Army, 12 April 1918
So death, the most terrifying of ills, is nothing to us, since so long as we exist, death is not with us; but when death comes, then we do not exist. It does not then concern either the living or the dead, since the former it is not, and the latter are no more.

Always best to just go for it, own the shame. Double down when you're sober.
Unless you've accidentally sent your boss a dick pic then probably don't double down.
Re: do you ever just get drunk without drinking anything
Hmm yeah I should do that more.
Unless it was too bad, in which case I'll show contrition.

Poker in the front.
Liquor in the rear.
