i'll try get a screenshot of the inside of the colony and an episode number. but Rama is described as a giant cylindrical craft many kilometers in length and diameter inside the craft is a world unto itself with plains and atmosphere that could support humanoid life. This is almost exactly how the colonies of Zeon are described and depicted.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

Cylindrical crafts are a popular element.

Rendezvous with Rama was published three years before Gerard O'Neill published his theory on space colonization. I will assume Arthur C. Clarke heard about the concept before it was published and adapted it into the story.

it seems it was a popular theory of the time given the timeline when Rama and The High Frontier was published and the release of Gundam 0079.

Yes. Wikipedia also mentions https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermann_Oberth and his book Menschen im Weltraum – Neue Projekte für Raketen- und Raumfahrt ("People in space – New projects for rockets and space travel") from 1954

Ha ha!
I've found the book on Amazon (unavailable unfortunately), but there are some example pages shown. It definitely looks interesting.

All this learning about space exploration theory made me think of this quote from Bill Hicks
"Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace"

it's odd i've heard and know quit a bit about Werner von Braun and his contribution to rocketry and a little about Esnault-Pelterie but almost nothing about Oberth or even Tsiolkovsky.
