It really does depend on the game and the mood I'm in. When MMOs first dawned the planet, there was an era of multiplayer that exploded on to our screens; back then it was all about meeting people, forming allegiances that led to friendships, battling massive bosses TOGETHER, etc etc but in more recent years that flare seems to have diminished and you can now solo a lot of MMOs (bar raids which usually sees you grouping up with random people you barely speak to and never see again after said raid). I understand they made MMOs a lot easier to play, level up and obtain gear to appeal to a much wider audience but I think in doing so, they killed the multiplayer aspect. Now I may have this all wrong and have just been playing the wrong MMOs/servers but I remember a time when your clan was like your family; now I find myself joining random clans on the promise of this, that and whatever else, only to find the chat is completely stone cold silent and there is no engagement :(

Moving away from MMOs; when we were younger my sister and I would love playing cooperative games together; I still fondly remember Sonic 2 on the MegaDrive where the second player could control the invincible tails  Since she and I have moved out of our family home and begun families of our own, I've not really had a 'player 2' to play with. Sure, my partner likes OverCooked and we've had a good couple of hours playing that but she is anything but a gamer  It's just not in her nature and I respect that :) It does however mean I rarely play multiplayer, not because I don't want to, but simply because I've lost my player 2 :( I recently got PS+ with the view of playing online again but have yet to actually do that either

I don't know, maybe it's me and growing older but multiplayer just doesn't seem like it used to in the era of the N64 and Xbox where you all gathered around a single console and 15" CRT TV and screamed "screen watcher" at one another  Those were the days...

i have to agree with you there toshioa, being part of a guild or clan used to mean something. It was an extended family sharing an experience, these days playing online multiplayer means being shouted at by some idiot calling you every slur under the sun. It's why ive stuck to playing solo campaigns mostly as the community spirit that used to exist in the world of gaming seems to be diminishing.

Nishizono Shinji sadly this seems to be the norm for online multiplayer now :( I think the problem is - and I'm not exclusively blaming these games - games like PUBG or Fortnite where largely the aim is to work completely on your own, forming no alliances and not really working together. The popularity of these games has exploded so much that the community spirit has all but been forgotten and it's every man for themselves. I really miss trying to get home from school as soon as possible because we'd been planning a raid for 2 days solid and we were finally ready to give it another shot! I don't know, maybe I am just set in my ways and the 'past' but that was online gaming to me. Sadly though I don't even know how to begin to fix it! :(

Consequently, if anyone is playing an MMO at the moment and would like some company, hit us up! I'm always looking to get stuck back in to an MMO but I'm only really interested if the community is there to drive it. If I wanted to quest/hunt alone, I'd save the monthly subscription and simply play a single player game!

Tosh, why not play ESO? Beyond paying for the base game the subscription is optional (although it does get you access to some of the DLC and a few other perks).

I've been meaning to get back into GW2, but I've missed so much of the Living World content and never got the two expansions so I'm struggling to see my way back to it.
Come spook along with me

PM me to add me and I will add you back :)

Hi Lloydiboy :) I believe I did buy ESO a year or two ago on Steam but I don't think I've actually ever played it :O Do you play it? :) I had forgotten all about Guild Wars as well - wow that really is a blast from the past!

I've only heard bad reviews of ESO so never gave it a try.

I remember it receiving bad press when it first released but I've also heard a lot of the issues in the beginning have now being fixed and ironed out nicely :) Going to give it a try soon so will keep you posted.

This.

ESO was never a particularly bad game, just pretty average at launch in a crowded market that was trying to justify a mandatory subscription. The updates since launch, launching on consoles and the removal of the mandatory subscription have really helped the game to move towards a more fun experience.
It's a much different game from the one launched 5 years ago, and it's better for it.

Sounds worthy of giving it a try if nothing else! :) Does it have any unique or defining features over other MMOs? :)

I will have to play it then as I am a big fan of the elder scrolls games in general.
