I still really like Gunbuster/Diebuster because they at least try to tackle time dilation in space. Like, at one point in Diebuster, the main characters miss a shuttle or something and wind up a few hours behind, only to come back from a light speed travel back to their base to find three months have passed and they missed a friend's birthday.

Gunbuster is very 80's and both have a decent amount of nudity if I remember right. Gunbuster is better than Diebuster in my opinion, but I think Diebuster is kind of a prototype Gurren Lagann for the stuff that happens at the end of the series. Also, Lal'c and Nono are my favorite space lesbians <3 (even if it's not explicitly stated in the show, still pairing them). Diebuster doesn't really require knowledge of Gunbuster, but it helps the ending seem a bit better.
