apparently there's been a great debate on the internet about discarding every item you have, releasing every pokemon, and keeping the magikarp you can buy from the vendor and then finding ways to make it through the game

highlights include: splashing against kakunas and metapods until you have 0 PP to struggle, running, and then using struggle to level your magikarp, and exploiting the game's inaccurate 100% hit chance counter with a geodude or graveler in victory road (100% in gen 1 did not mean 100%, it's 1/256 chance to miss) until one uses self-destruct or explosion and misses to get the magikarp experience

it is a wild, wild ride and quite possibly the least sane player i've ever seen, and i considered myself insane for how much i've bred pokemon
