Agreed.
Though at this point I'd still play it if they made another new one.
Maybe they could introduce a system where you can generate monsters in-game in various ways, or by having the game read media/save files on the system to generate monsters.

It was pretty much a "you had to be there for it" thing. Being in middle school, being into all of the monster training sim/RPG games, playing it with friends who also loved it, annoying everyone in you and your friends' houses digging through the entire house for every possible disc, spending all night opening and closing the PS1 checking them, getting mostly worthless monsters, but then you get that cool looking, rare, powerful monster, and you're all fucking hyped over it, and then you get your ass kicked in the high level tournaments anyway because you suck at battling and your monsters don't do what you want.
Good times.

The Digimon World games are in that same boat.
They were fun back then, but are honestly kinda crappy and I can't imagine anyone enjoying them for the first time now.

i started to get good at the games by the time i'd played advance, and by 3 i kicked ass with most of my monsters
won most of the hard stuff with a golem, moved onto a durahan/dullahan, then i just grinded money with a zan
