they're fun, but the fun varies on which one you play
tales of symphonia is probably the best one to start out with
and they're on everything from snes to ps1/2/3/4 to handhelds to pc
there's a ton of them

yep, there are more good ones than bad, the bad ones tend to be the early ones because they're very unintuitive *cough phantasia cough*
best played with a guide as they have many missables and skits to further character development

honestly there are a few games you can start out with, it's just that symphonia tends to be people's first jump into the tales series
