Nintendo in particularly has always been very anti-emulation/anti-Piracy, although given that most current gen Nintendo fans can't be much older than about 15, I don't really see how it's a major issue to be honest?

They also don't like their games being copied, I remember back in the late 80s they sued the pants off US Gold for creating "Great Giana Sisters" which was virtually a carbon copy of Super Mario Bros even down to the level design, for copyright infringement, as I recall the ZX Spectrum version was reviewed in Crash and got their top Award "Crash Smash" but it was never officially released due to the lawsuit.

I don't beee-lieve it!

this is hardly new, they cracked down on 3DS consoles and banned A TON of them from online play

i'd imagine you can still mod your console and get away with it, provided you wait for a new CFW for the newest OFW update so you won't get banned

realistically though, playing a game from a ROM online shouldn't be possible in the first place if i recall correctly, because every game has an equivalent of a hardware ID

copied IDs were one way they banned 3DS handhelds that tried to play pokemon sun and moon when they leaked

tbh if you wanna play pirated stuff, just get a steam deck, native linux emulators abound, including a switch one

you'll just have to find the ROMs on your own, which are much scarcer for switch games
