Is it just me or do Down's kids get portrayed on TV as being a bit thick?

Above.

Just been watching an old episode of The Bill, featuring a Down's girl called Shauna, who had been made pregnant by another DS lad called Peter.

Thing is, having lived and worked and gone to school with several DS kids, they're anything but daft.

My best friend Paul from Stoke is DS, although I've not seen him for about 25 years, and he's just celebrated his 48th birthday earlier this month (I'd have sent a card but I no longer have his address, plus I can never remember if it's the 3rd or the 10th!)

Anyway, does anyone else have any experience of DS people?

I don't beee-lieve it!

I think it was because you were watching The Bill which is quite a dated show now (I know its not that old). But there was a down's girl on Glee (now Glee is not the most politically correct show at the best of times) and sometimes they did make this girl do "silly things" however they never portrayed her as stupid.

I remember when my mum ran her Drama school she had a downs girl and she was very intelligent even more than some of the "able body" kids.
