This long running manga, and associated anime series (Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House) has received a live-action adaptation.
The series will debut worldwide on NETFLIX January 12.
The manga's story is set in Kyoto's "hanamachi" geisha quarter. Here, after geisha finish their work late at night, they spend the night resting at a lodge to prepare for the next day. The story centres on Kiyo, an Aomori native who works as a cook in a geisha lodge in Kyoto after finishing junior high school and leaving home. She also has a friend named Sumire who is a maiko, or apprentice geisha.
NETFLIX have been streaming an English subbed trailer.
Personally, I am really looking forward to this. I have been reading the Manga, and followed quite a bit of the anime on NHK, but this will be on a whole new level. A rare chance to see behind the curtain at the training these girls have to go through.
