Why can't Americans stay in Japan for six months?
So, I'm interested in staying in Japan for a while. Sadly, I can't teach English, seeing as I don't have a college degree. I noticed that Japan offers a six month stay to foreigners of numerous countries. Sadly, America is not one of them. Why not? Is that something America decided, Japan decided, or both decided? It sucks that all these citizens of other countries are allowed to live in Japan for six months, but I'm a citizen of a country that can only stay there for 90 days. Are there any other options? If I can afford to live in Japan for a year or two, is there a visa that will just allow me to live there?

Couldn't you just marry a citizen?
My cousin got married to try and be on Family Feud. Your reason seems better.
