Glad the ceiling didn't land on you

Re: Lets Nep things up, Elgood style!
Those damn bailiffs that I've had so much trouble with, they put a final notice through our for to take possession of stuff in the house for a debt that doesn't exist.
when I called them saying that the debt had been paid and then the court made them refund it because I should have never paid it in the first place they said they where still coming tomorrow to take possession of goods
so I jumped in the car and went to the police station cos at this point I've had enough and this is harassment. The police told me that unless they turned up tomorrow and tried to gain entry into the house or became unreasonable or aggressive that they wouldn't do anything but gave me the number for citizens advice.....(fat lot of good that would do I though)
came back home and when I walked in one of the guys I live with said they'd called back while I was at the police station to say that the notice should have never been left in the first place, that they won't be attending the property and that it was a clerical error on their part. i'm really considering suing for compensation for all the harassment and stress that they've caused me.
On the housing front I made enquiries on a nice little 1 bedroom flat that's within walking distance of work. the rent is £395 and deposit is £493. I've not been to the council yet about getting help with the deposit becuase the estate agents threw a spanner into the works saying that the landlord requires that I have a guarantor that's a homeowner and unfortunately I don't know anyone that owns their own home and would stand as guarantor for me, so it's back to the drawing board I guess.

Can't believe they have turned up again! That really sucks John I can imagine that being really stressful.
Hope that will be the very last time they bother you.

Still no luck on the housing situation. It's looking like I'll be moving to the next house with the others, which is what I didn't want to do. Mainly because the room that I'd be moving too is alot smaller than that one that I have now and I'm expecting my landlord to charge me the same I'm paying now. £400 a month for a single room is a bit much when the going rate for single rooms in flatshares is £360 a month. Also at the new house there's nowhere for me to park my car either and I don't like the idea of having to park it on the road, away from the house. So unless I win the 167,000,000 euromillions or something like that, my living situation is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better.

I know it's not ideal but I suppose moving to the next house with the others is better than not having a place at all. The rent does sound quite expensive for what you will get though.
Keep looking in the meantime for somewhere new, you will get there

House-hunting is the literal worst. Have you tried OpenRent? That's where I found my landlord and I love him. A private landlord without an agent might not require a guarantor. I'm sorry that your situation is sucking so bad right now.

no I hadn't, I hadn't even considered that as an option. I'll look into it

well at the moment things are looking good, I registered on openrent like Endynyp suggested. There was nothing available at the time so I set up an e-mail alert and carried on as I was. Two days ago my e-mail alert went off about a 1 bed flat in dereham for £350pm. I contacted the landlord and arranged a viewing for friday morning. The only thing that will throw a spanner into the works is if the council decide not to help me with the deposit, but lets not hope it comes to that. Other than that i'm really tired. I've been working 6 day weeks for the last three weeks and it's starting to take it's toll.

Great news about the viewing! Hope it goes well and the council can help you out. Will be great to get a place of your own

Ahh I can imagine! Hope you get to take a proper break from work soon. I imagine you spend your 1 day a week off catching up with home bits so you aren't really getting a proper rest.

That's great news!! I hope it goes well and I hope the council helps. I know this is stressful now, but if you could get your own place, you'll feel so much better. I'm rooting for you!

Re: Lets Nep things up, Elgood style!
Bad news i'm afraid, I got a phone call this morning from the landlord of the flat that I was suppost to be viewing tomorrow telling me that unfortunately my viewing was cancelled because the flat has been let. I'm guessing someone beat me to the punch and flashed cash in the landlords face. It's not a total loss though because I found a double room to rent on the flatsharing website I use that's 10 mins away from work (by car) and the best bit is it's £125 cheaper a month than the room I'm in now but it's the same size. Going to view it Monday evening and I know this time I won't lose it to someone else because the room isn't actually available till the 1st of November. Fingers crossed
