[Updated] Ubisoft to shut down online features for 15 games

Post by Ojisama » 03 Jul 2022, 22:39

Confirmation has come that Ubisoft is closing down the online features of some of it's older games.

Multiplayer mode, buying DLC and other online features will cease to be available after September 1st 2022. Single player and offline play will still be available, but at least 1 of the games is an online multiplayer only, so that and other similar games will effectively be dead. You also won't be able to link or unlock goodies via your Ubisoft account.

The full list...

Anno 2070
Assassin's Creed 2
Assassin's Creed 3 (Remaster unaffected)
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
Assassin's Creed Liberation HD
Assassin's Creed Revelations
Driver San Francisco
Far Cry 3 (Remaster unaffected)
Ghost Recon Future Soldier
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Rayman Legends
Silent Hunter 5
Space Junkies
Splinter Cell: Blacklist
ZombiU

Ubisoft says that decommissioning these older games will allow it to focus resources on newer/more popular games.

It's funny you should say that.

Stories are emerging that some developers at Ubisoft are fighting to save the game.

The team at Ubisoft Mainz, the original developers, have said that it will "dedicate some of [it's] development resources to work on upgrading Anno 2070's aged online services infrastructure to a new system" in a bid to ensure that the games online features can continue to be used past the cut-off date. However, they have stressed that they can't guarantee that they will be able to successfully upgrade/replace the old services as they'd like to.

I really hope they can. 2070 isn’t my fave but I love the anno franchise and I doubt there’ll be a new instalment any time soon so it would be a shame to see it die

I personally disagree, Valhalla is pretty awesome and Rogue is by far my favourite with Syndicate coming in close second.

Rogue had that feature that Brotherhood had but instead of training up assassins to go on missions you captured ships and sent them off on missions while simultaneously wiping out the assassins.

In a last minute move, Ubisoft have extended the deadline by at least a month to October 1st.

End of services will only effect PC users, and Ubisoft have allowed extra time for those who have purchased DLC to download them.

Console users will still have access to online services even after the deadline.

Anno 2070 is having it's servers fully updated so that it won't be affected at all, and will continue as normal.
