My work laptop keeps dimming and then getting bright only to dim again and then get bright only to dim again, ect... I'm not even touching the fucker and it does it. Hell, even does it while I am in the middle of typing things. >> Any suggestions?

Faithy, what brand of laptop? I know this Windows Surface laptop does the same exact thing.

it may just be sensing the light in your room, and the screen adjusts to it.

laptops are put together differently so it's difficult to say what's wrong.

But essentially it sounds like the video card connection which would be built in is either going out or you have a bad connection.

Of course it could be a power saving setting issue too.

So I'm stating check your power saving settings first. The screen's brightness is usually always sacrificed first. So just plugging it in might fix it.

Then if that doesn't seem to be the issue, well it's probably internal. If you feel comfortable with opening it up check connections if they seem fine unconnect them and reconnect them.

Lots of dust built up inside will cause a bad connection. So cleaning that with a lint free rag, then with isopropyl alcohol should fix a bad connection issue.

Which is probably the case. The video card going out is usually unlikely.

It's a dumb Dell laptop thingy... I say thingy because it can come apart and be a tablet. Hell, who knows what work gave me! XD

It does it when it's plugged in, so definitely not power saver. Also, the auto bright/dim thingy is switched off and my brightness is all the way up despite it being so fuggin dim. However, when it switches/flickers to bright, it rapes my eyes, so that's fantastic. I'll just "accidentally" run it over so I get a newer one. What sucks is I can't even run simple diagnostics and shit because almost everything is locked out by the admin IT people. Like I'm going to download bad stuff on it... >> Geesh << No trust.
