Yeah, that bit kinda meshed with me less on Maximum Carnage. I picked it up to play it with my brother, but we found out that it was 1-player. 
Dad bought us Separation Anxiety later, and we beat the game because my brother glitched infinite lives somehow. I pretty much just sat and watched him beat it. Kind of demoralizing now that I think about it. Oh well.
And yes, red carts are clearly the most expensive part of production. Just look at Pokemon. Wait no, don't look at Pokemon.

My friends and I enjoyed watching each other play single player games. Hell we played jrpgs together. But then we weren't hogging the games from each other like siblings do. Separation Anxiety sucked though so the silver lining is you dodged a bullet.

With my friends, I didn't mind sharing / watching. That was fun, 'cause we had that mutual respect. My brother can be a bully, not always fond of him, but apparently that's just how brothers are? Not an excuse, but an explanation.
