So long story short, I've always wanted to get into DND bu, don't know where to start.

how does everyone draw the reference sheet? Can I just commision an artist to do that for me. Also, where does everyone make their maps?

You could try D&D Beyond for your character sheets. https://www.dndbeyond.com/

Not sure about maps. The site my son used to use has shut down, and he hasn't played since the summer as his Uni D&D group disbanded.

Not sure what you mean by reference sheet, like the thing often on DM screens? or the char sheets? or like something else?
If like on DM screens, you can find some online like: https://cheatography.com/cryptocartogra ... 5e-basics/
If like a char sheet, I always use the free PDF version wizards gives out: https://media.wizards.com/2016/dnd/down ... llable.pdf
If something else and you explain, I prolly have something more. I play in multiple groups and have for 2 decades, so have lots of resources.

Maps! Is this for online or in person?
If online, I can't draw so I use the free resources like: https://dicegrimorium.com/free-rpg-map-library/
But I know for online my buddy also uses: https://inkarnate.com/
For in person, I just look on place like amazon for the laminated premade ones or just a basic laminated grid and use dry erase markers.
