Poker chairs re-upholstery

This is what I did this weekend

Image

4 chairs for $20. Very well built chairs--all steel base with wood covering--in good condition except for upholstery that smells like aunt ethel's spittoon.

The bottom cushions were on a piece of plywood screwed down, so we could completely replace the bottom cushion. We bought new foam pads and upholstery fabric for about $80

My mother fitting the first back. The backs we just covered up.

The spindles are slightly small diameter for the base and it was making them unstable so I fixed that.

Cobalt bits. Says they go through stainless steel, but I still ruined three of them.

The duct tape was removed afterwards of course. It was on there temporarily while I tied off the end.

The new fabric was thick and uncompressed. Some forceful persuasion required.

It was more complicated than that of course. Had to redo the shafts like 3 times and trial and error with staples and brads to get the upholstery to sit right.

But I have 4 new chairs.
