I'm going to change this post to collect carpentry projects so that I can pull some stuff from the archives.
This thread was originally titled 'Bed' and the first 4 pages are me making my current bed.

Poker Chairs Re-Upholstery

This is what I did this weekend
4 chairs for $20. Very well built chairs--all steel base with wood covering--in good condition except for upholstery that smells like aunt ethel's spittoon.
The bottom cushions were on a piece of plywood screwed down, so we could completely replace the bottom cushion. We bought new foam pads and upholstery fabric for about $80
My mother fitting the first back. The backs we just covered up.
The spindles are slightly small diameter for the base and it was making them unstable so I fixed that.
Cobalt bits. Says they go through stainless steel, but I still ruined three of them.
The duct tape was removed afterwards of course. It was on there temporarily while I tied off the end.
The new fabric was thick and uncompressed. Some forceful persuasion required.
It was more complicated than that of course. Had to redo the shafts like 3 times and trial and error with staples and brads to get the upholstery to sit right.
But I have 4 new chairs.

Platform frame done.
Its this way for drawers later. The outer skin will straighten it out.

Very few I'm afraid, as neither bunk will have the clearance for much jumping.
But if it wasnt a bunk bed, it'd be fine with more scantily clad women than could actually fit on it The weight will be well distributed on 24 posts.
I found a decent piece of plywood for the front skin where the drawers will be. This is the most sensitive piece because it has to stay nice with...26 cuts, 24 of which have to start in the middle in the plywood. I think I will cut it now. It'll take a while because i have to be careful not to screw it up.

If anyone is curious on how to start a cut in the middle of plywood, I took a video:

You're likely not curious, but I'm having fun posting shit.

I made a few mistakes:
They're minor lapses in quality and might be able to be sanded out.
Anyway, the first drawer front/hole is out now:

And they're all out, with minimal damage.
It is now 7 pm here. I'd better stop using power tools for now. I will start again tomorrow.

I have run into an engineering problem.
This garage floor is not flat.
All of the weight of the bed is resting on this front skin, and if I stood in the middle of that edge the front skin would crack and all that work I did yesterday to make that piece would be moot.
It's not going to sit in this garage, granted--but what if my room isn't flat?
If this isn't an issue, great--but if it is, I might need to cut up this piece a bit so that it can safely bend. I didn't think of that when designing this.
Bendy won't work nice with drawers, I bet. Drawers are finicky. But I will figure it out.
Hmm but whether to just cut it up now preemptively.
I think I will before I sand it, but it doesn't need it right now. I'll just take the middle screws out and let the bed curve independent of this panel. All I need right now are the ends secured so that I can put on the posts, after all.
