Nice! 3inches isn't too deep but maybe good for spices? small plants, litttle decorations...what were you envisioning them good for?

I've picked up a few anime figures, here and there, and other little items I'd like to display.
Re: Expendable's Little Blue Box
out of curiosity, have you ever sent any of this stuff off to have it actually made? i know there are companies that's do that, either plastic, metal, wood, what have you
i had a bulbasaur planter 3D printed for me a while back, and when i interned at the local giant tech company here, i made something that their in-home fabrication department created (and this was before 3D printing was huge too, it was just starting to be a thing)

No, I haven't. It's cardboard and basically I'm to cut it out by making a form and then sandwiching the slices.
My builds are full scale so I'd have to drastically scale them down for printing.

Re: Expendable's Little Blue Box
Two new ebooks -
The American Builder's Companion by Asher Benjamin, who was a Late Colonial carpenter who provided some design rules for decorating buildings of the period - spacing fluting on columns, building winding stairs, various roof-types, etc. And this book was used to share that with various carpenters to share his designs, which you can still see in old buildings of the period. This is a Dover reprint, so it's a really old book they still had the manuscript for / no longer under protection of copyright so no royalties to worry about. Should help me when building stuff in Sketchup.
Get Your House Right: Architecture Elements to Use & Avoid by Marianne Cusato, Ben Pentreath, Richard Sammons, Leon Krier, and H.R.H. The Prince of Wales (who did the foreword). It's another book on classical architecture and how to use those elements correctly.
Should be handy for my next round of virtual house building.

$10 and $9. I'll have to go see what I can get at the library tomorrow.

Only as a hobby, so I can improve my structures in Sketchup.
Re: Expendable's Little Blue Box
ahhh, gotcha
architecture's a tricky road anyways, gotta have a great need for new buildings/roads/whatever in your area

Yup! But suddenly I'm on a traveling desk kick, part of my love for campaign furniture.

Re: Expendable's Little Blue Box
Army units could spend years on a campaign before returning home, so the officers and even some of the enlisted men would splurge on some creature comforts. This traveling furniture became known as Campaign furniture. Some of it collapsed for easy transport, or were specialty chests that had corner reinforcements and handles that folded flat. You could find all sorts of tables, beds, chairs, desks, bureaus, chests, wash basins and even a portable shower.
You'd see this sort of camp furniture used by officers in the American Civil war, too.
However, the end result was long luggage trains, which slowed down troops.
