In a fit of post con joy I've decided my goal for the next twelve months is to make my own cosplay. Which I will enter with into the cosplay auction at Alcon next year, assuming I can make it.....I've decided to do a gender bender Silk from Marvel Comics. Because I like the character and I can wear it when Willow wears her Spiderman costume (Yes I know they made out in the comics!) so it may get a a dry run at another con if I finish it early!

I'm using the image below as a base.

So from what I can tell I would need a black bodysuit, white fabric to form the first layer of the symbol with it wrapping round at the back and more red strips (glued on?) to form the symbol and a red snood yo finish it off?

Any tips or help no matter how obvious even to a NOOB would be appreciated!

I found this online as a potential bodysuit https://www.amazon.co.uk/Howriis-Spandex-Bodysuit-Headless-Catsuit/dp/B01E4Y628G/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1473196770&sr=8-5&keywords=black+headless+morphsuit anyone know how hard it is to sow/glue stuff to Polyester/Lycra blend?

Also have to invest in some black gloves if I use this as a base.

I have never tried sewing lycra. However, stretchy material is very difficult to sew on. Assuming you are using a machine, you need special needles for stretch fabrics. I also think lycra material is a case of "one chance" to sew, otherwise you get holes in the fabric. Little ones from the needle. But, this is assuming you want a decent/professional finish.

Yeah I'm trying to source a machine, I know one of my moms mates has a couple in Devon, worst case I ask her to help me stich it and supervise!

Fingers crossed someone has one. The red pattern fingers crossed can make with fabric glue and patience.

Hmm, depending on the fabric you are using, you could use fabric paint or even sharpies. Just make sure to do the pattern before stitching it to the base fabric...cos if you make a mistake, removing the fabric is such a pain!

Fingers crossed will have the time to plan the purchase and construction side out tomorrow. Just having a check list and working my way down it slowly should help.

Depending on how much you want to hand make the costume, you can order morph suits with the detailing already on, and then you can just add a sepearte hood and under arm fabric.
