How do you put batteries in a digital camera?

Is it positive to postive/negative to negative or otherwise? I can't get my Fujifilm Finepix S digital camera to work despite trying 2 brand new sets of AA batteries!

I am aware of Google, and I'm in a photography group on Reddit, but I'd rather ask on here.

"He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!" (Michael Palin in Monty Python's "Life of Brian")
"I am speaking UK English in a Sheffield accent!" (Me most of the time I'm on the landline or mobile)

There should - emphasis on should - be a diagram on the battery compartment. If there's a spring, that's your negative end. But battery install tends to go: + to - next battery + to - and so on, sorry if this is a sucking eggs moment, but if you put + to + you are not getting a current flow. and risk a failure.
Once you’ve met someone, you never really forget them. it just takes a while for your memories to return
