Are there any other job sites besides Indeed UK/Monster/CV Library?

Post by Rich-Allen1976 » 12 Jan 2024, 15:20

I've just applied via Indeed for a part time role at the Spar in S6 (Possibly Stannington Village, next door to the Co Op) however I had to declare my disability so it's unlikely I'll even get an interview.

Are there any other sites besides the main ones like Indeed on which I can apply for stuff? I am in the UK, I cannot afford to move to the US for work.

OMG. Where to start?

Sue Ross recruitment - Ecclesall Road.
Blue Arrow - Leopold Street
Forde Recruitment - Townhead Street
Reed Recruitment - Leopold Square
Staff 365 Recruitment -
Hayes Specialist Recruitment
Voluntary Action Sheffield
Pertemps

You could also try some out of town agencies. These agencies have all advertised Sheffield jobs recently.

Round Recruitment
Recruitment Pursuits
Michael Page (UK)

How helpful any of these will be I can't really say.

I've been doing voluntary work for Donkey's years mate, I want to work but get paid for it.

In fact it'll be 34 years in June since I did that placement at Teque House in Rotherham from school, and then from November 1994 to the end of March 1995 I did a placement at Presto Supermarket in Grimsby (which is probably a Tesco nowadays, I've not been in the area for years)

Also, about 16 years ago I was supposed to have an interview for "Premier People" in the Peace Gardens (which is now a Costa Coffee), when I got there they denied all knowledge of setting up the interview! In the end I did an online typing speed test, they wanted 60 wpm and my speed came in at 59.5 because I tend to sacrifice speed for accuracy with spelling and grammar.

I wouldn't mind but I'd dressed in a posh shirt and tie and everything.

I've also dealt with most of the big Agencies on the High St, including the one which used to be opposite the Cathedral, as soon as I walked through the door, the guy told me to go to Remploy! I was like, I very much beg your pardon? Same with the one behind the Cathedral, where I've had at least 3 interviews over the years and got messed about.

So forgive me if I don't take your well-meaning advice to go through Agencies.

There's also the fact that for various reasons, I can't work 40 hours a week, so most places don't wanna know.

Would the government website help too? I know they encourage people to apply there when they are on UC

My final suggestion would be to research employers that have a good reputation of employing people such as yourself, and tracking their personal websites for vacancies.

The modern equivalent of the old fashioned mailshot wouldn't hurt either. Luckily, e-mailing CVs and letters of application wont cost anything other than time and like me, you seem to have plenty of that.

Are you in touch with self-help groups? They should be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks Mel but I'm on PIP not Universal Credit.

They tried to put me on UC a few years ago but various people blocked it.

Most of the big names say "We are a disability confident employer", except most of 'em don't mean it IMO, it's just a legal requirement under the Equality Act that they say it.

Does Sheffield have a council website? I know for my area (classed as Calderdale) they have a jobs section its how I got the job I have now. Supposed to be great if you can get a council job y'know... i can't speak for all councils but you get quite a fair few benefits with Calderdale so Im just generalising this to anything similar. My judgement could be off

They do indeed, and they "allegedly" offer guaranteed interviews for disabled applicants, however, a few years ago I applied to be a Lollipop man, filled in all the forms and sent them in, they said I hadn't declared my disability even though I did.
