Is "Cryptocurrency" a scam?

Above.
I've been doing a "job" online and on WhatsApp with Selfridges since yesterday, I've completed various "tasks" on the Selfridges website on my and my referrer's accounts, and she says if I download a crypto app, OKX, and verify my account on it (free), I'll get paid.
Excuse my cynicism but my Internet security Guru Brother's taught me that anything that looks even remotely NOT legit, more often than not, isn't.
Fortunately, if it does turn out to be suss, I haven't spent any money (unlike that Oriflame UK thing the week before last which cost me £20 to find out it was a scam!)
Thoughts?
