Instagram Threads- what are your thoughts

So Instagram Threads has become open to the public today. This discussion may mostly comprise of me picking it apart as this sort of move is exactly the sort of case study I have looked and studied into for my Managing IT module. For anyone who has been out of the loop, Instagram has basically found an opening to rival Twitter since the recent changes Twitter has made which have not gone down too well with it's users. There has been a word on the street that funding for Twitter is going downhill. Aside from that, feel free to add your thoughts on the matter here.

Good move or nah?

I have also attached a BBC news link here for anyone wanting more information on the matter. It has a nice comparison summary between Threads and Twitter as well.

I think because in my studies we have recently looked at the reason for the failure of companies and this seems to be a prime example worth investigating. For someone like Elon Musk to mess up such a huge company name to lead so many not using the app anymore I find it quite fascinating to find out more come to think about it. I've been on and off Twitter myself because I have been quite sick of the toxicity of the Twitter community. Instagram on the other hand has a nicer and more forgiving community (from experience) so I just hope it's not the case of all the Twitter "trolls" migrating over to Threads and ruining Instagram's image tbh

twitter's supposedly due to die any week now, so i'll take a solid alternative... the problem is getting everyone over to one service, because i've heard of a lot of people going to places like bluesky as well...

Seeing as I stopped being 14 over 30 years ago, I don't use Instagram.

Bluesky seems interesting... Did a quick Google search and apparently there's a waiting list to get on the app?? I'm assuming that's to control the "traffic" of how many users they can be and probably (and hopefully) to stomp out bots

So I sort of had a revelation, whether it's big news to you guys eh... I'm gonna say anyway XD so since threads is art of Instagram and Instagram is basically overrun by Facebook- Facebook technically has monopoly over both Instagram and Threads right? So that's the easy bit. The next bit I found when I begrudgingly logged back into Facebook the other day and I noticed that there were a lot of bots commenting, or what appeared to be bots because they were all commenting the same phrase to a post. Not to mention the number of fake news and even hacking that goes around. Kinda makes you question the security of the site y'know? I just worry that this is what's to come for Threads if that is how Facebook is managed. Not to mention if someone hacks into your Instagram account they basically have your Threads account too because both are under the same profile.

We don't need an alternative to twitter. The best alternative to twitter is the one that decides to not exist.

Elon Musk is now accusing Meta for "cheating" regarding the development of Threads. Assuming the claim that none of the developers were ex-Twitter employees is true then this is just Musk throwing his toys out the pram at this point.
