Would anyone know how to fix my Gmail account?

Ever since I set my new Pixel 7 phone up this morning, my Gmail account says I have 18 unread messages, I've checked several times and tried to mark them as read but it won't work on the Gmail app or website.

I've emailed my Brother who sorts my PCs out but he's so busy with work and the kids he never responds to my emails.

Can anyone help?

I am aware of Google and have actually Googled the issue.

Yep, same result on my PC

Although I'll check another browser and see if it's a Chrome issue.

I had a problem with Chrome when I was gambling on the Grand National last night but it worked in MS Edge.

No, still does the same thing in Edge! FFS, I hate Gmail but it's my main email account I use for everything except work.
