Hardest UK accents to understand?

Post by Rich-Allen1976 » 27 Oct 2022, 14:01

Above.

For some highly annoying reason, most non-UK call centres do not understand my strong local accent (I'm from Sheffield, but have a slight Manchester/Liverpool accent mixed with broad Yorkshire)

The only call centres I can more or less translate are Sky (based in Scotland) and O2 (London)

Up to a few years ago I basically despised the London accent, but as my 14 year old nephew and 11 year old niece are London born, I have to tolerate it, also my sister in law's from Gloucester so she kind of has a Southern accent.

Reason I hated the Cockney accent was back in my College years, I spent the first 9 months living in the main Hall, which was literally like living in an extended episode of Eastenders due to all the Cockneys, which wouldn't be so bad if they didn't constantly insult me for my own regional dialect (and being just turned 17 at the time, I spoke a lot softer then than I do now)

Does anyone have this problem?

Vote in the poll and discuss.

I don't beee-lieve it!

I think one of the hardest accents to understand if your not from around here is a proper Norfolk accent. As an example there's a film that stuart ashens made called "Ashens and the quest for the game child" and in that film there's a scene where they've gone into a pub in norwich (cos that's where he's from) to speak to the professor about the gamechild and gets stopped by a man using a broad norfolk accent. the scene is about 17minutes in to the movie

Yeah there's a young wrestler called Saraya (fka Paige in WWE) who's originally from Norfolk but she's lived in the US since she was 18, she turned 30 in August, but about 5 years ago she had a nasty neck injury which literally ended her in ring career.

Also a few years back she got bad publicity for starring in porn videos with other older wrestlers, and dated Mexican former WWE Champ, Alberto Del Rio.
I don't beee-lieve it!
