Netflix has announced that it will be rolling out a new "basic" tier of subscription in November.

Priced at $6.99 in the USA, it is expected to be £4.99 in the UK, and will feature advertising for the first time.

The new subscription tier will have four to five minutes of advertisements per hour, and a maximum of 720p resolution for content, with no downloading of content for later viewing. Netflix added that a limited number of its content will not be available in this tier due to licensing issues "which we're working on." In addition to this, some agencies are reporting that there will be about a 5% to 10% reduction in content, but no word as to what will be missing from the new service as yet.

The ads will play before and during content in 15- or 30-second lengths. Advertisers will be able to target their ads by country and genre.

I imagine that become annoying, rather quickly, I'd rather pay a quid or so more for no ads.

In a letter to shareholders, NETFLIX has announced that it has completely overturned the loss in subscribers that it previously reported earlier this year.

In the 3rd quarter of the year, over 2.4 million new accounts were added to the service, more than double the accounts lost in Q's 1 & 2 (1.17 million).

The service now boasts that over 223 million subscribers access its' services worldwide.

Recent changes to its' revenue stream include a cheaper add supported "Basic" tier, and actions against password sharing including the ability to port viewing history and preferences onto new accounts.

Honestly, I prefer ads. It's when I use the restroom. And how I know what to eat.

It becomes available on November 3rd. I'm gonna get it for a month at least for Stranger Things. Oh, and Cobra Kai.
