The prequel is set 1200 years before Henry Cavill's Geralt of Rivia, focusing on the story of "seven outcasts who unite against an unstoppable power that took everything from them. Their blood quest giving rise to a prototype Witcher in a conflict that brings about the 'conjunction of the spheres,' when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merge to become one,"

Blood Origin boasts an exciting cast, with Everything all at Once's Michelle Yeoh in the role of sword-elf Scian and Giri/Haji's Sonia Brown in that of warrior-turned-musician Éile. It's a Sin's Nathaniel Curtis and Game of Thrones' Laurence O'Fuarain star as Brían and Fjall respectively.

The miniseries is expected to make its debut on December 25.
As for The Witcher, Geralt will return for a third season, expected to stream next year.
In the upcoming chapter, Geralt and sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) will team up to protect Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) against those out to capture her, with Yennefer also overseeing the princess' magical training.

With just over 2 months to go until this mini-series bursts onto our screens, there have been some updates.

Confirmed cast members now include Minnie Driver as Seanchai, an Elven Shapeshifter and time-traveller, and Sir Lenny Henry as Chief Druid Balor.

Other cast members include...

Sophia Brown (Éile)
Laurence O'Fuarain (Fjail)
Mirren Mack (Merwyn)
Dylan Moran (Uthrok One-Nut)
Jacob Collins-Levy (Eredin)
Francesca Mills (Meldof)
Amy Murray (Fenrik)
Zach Wyatt (Syndril)

Joey Batey returns as Jaskier, who acts as a narrator for the series, along with Seanchai.

Blood Origin takes place around 1,200 years before Witcher fans ever got to know Geralt of Rivia. The series will explain how the first of his kind was made. Blood Origin is set in the world of the Elves before their reality became intertwined with that of humans and the many monsters that inhabit the continent. The Conjunction of Spheres is the apocalyptic tragedy that causes the three to merge.

Originally planned as a six-parter, the series is now 4, hour long episodes.

Michelle Yeoh was my childhood crush….still is. She jumped a motorbike onto a moving train. I’ll watch anything she’s in. Hopefully this is better than the Henry Cavill thing.

There is no direct source material for this other than a few references in the books, so this is all new stories and characters.
