I don't know about useless. She's way too sweet and guileless for my taste but I did like that one scene from After Story where
Tomoya loses his job because his father got arrested and has a little break down. The way Nagisa comforted him by the side of the road was very moving.
That's when I realised why people like her and why those two are perfect for each other.
