A machette, flint for starting fires and fishing rod/string.
Practical and effective, should last me a decent while.

Nope! I would be doomed, too used to convenience.

Probably not, I could go without it for a few days to a week or 2 if it was a challenge or something maybe, but in the long run no, it's so useful.

The right side. I mean the starboard side. I mean if my bed was an aircraft, which obviously it isn't, with the pointy bit being headboard then I sleep on the starboard side. Why? Because it's away from the door which gives me a defensible position in case of a night time surpise attacke and a convenient escape route via the window.
