That's not true, we, Spaniards have a lot of Sandwich varieties.... but we rarely ate them as simply Lunch.
We do for mid breakfast (after get awaked b/fast, and before proper plated Lunch) and as for 'tea time' specially a childish ages (after school time and before Dinner) yeah, we eta like 5 times a day!!

Light, b/fast when we awakening, mid b/fast in between lunch 9-10 am, plated Lunch 1-2pm, tea time 5pm +/-, and dinner.
that's why we usually do dinner so late (9-10pm)
