Guide to becoming an Animeleague Radio DJ

So, You want to become a radio DJ?

This will show you how to connect to AL radio using Winamp. Before we start, please read over the section rules!

Section Rules
Credit to Rukia for the rules write up. Edited by RedHat.

If you have questions about any rules or aren't sure where to post, please feel free to ask in this thread, or PM Staff directly.

Quick Rules:

Respect - DJ's & Listeners are expected to respect one another, play nice and be cordial, regardless of differences. Both in Chat and Private.

AL Rules - AL's Board Wide Rules are enforced here, both on air and in the section. Chat is monitored by Chat Mods and Radio Staff.

Radio Content - Music must be Radio Versions; i.e. Content played must be work safe. Young viewers should not learn about sex or their first curse word here.

Offensive Music - Prohibited. DJ's should not play requests that could cause drama or discomfort. DJ's are expected to decline such requests.

AL's Catch ALL Rule - Also known as Rule #10 of the Board Wide Rules will be used, for anything not listed above or below, to enforce balance.

Why become a Listener of the Radio?
Listening to DJ's that play your preference of music helps DJ's know that others care and enjoy listening. By becoming a listener, you provide the encouragement to continue, not just for the DJ, but by telling AnimeLeague that the DJ's not only worthy of someone's time and interest but to continue the availability of Radio. Without Listeners, Radio would cease to exist.

When can I listen to radio?
Radio is available when a DJ is scheduled to host a show. Sometimes DJ's can't make it and will let their listeners know. However, by popping into chat, you will know when Radio is playing, because a DJ, relatively, will be actively interacting with their listeners. Even if they aren't in chat, Radio pops up when a DJ signs in to play at the top of the main forum page. You can also check the Radio DJ Schedule to see when DJ's are hosting their show and what music they are providing.

How do I make requests to a DJ?
If a DJ is actively posting in Chat during his show, you can publicly make a request there. Make sure to let them know clearly that you are talking to them. If a DJ is going to be on and they aren't yet in chat, or even when they are already DJing, you can send them a private message to get their attention. These two methods are the recommended response route if you want it done in that show period. However, they are not the only methods. You can always Message a DJ through a private chat. Of course, posting on their wall is another option, but be warned that the response may not be as quick as the other methods listed above.

Who can host a Show?
Anyone who has signed up to become a DJ and passed the orientation test can host a show. That said, anyone can play a part in a show, depending on the skill and activity a DJ provides. Interactive DJ's have means to interact and record interviews and other such type shows depending on their applications. But all DJ's are encouraged and likely to be posting in Chat, so this is one way to participate in a show.

Setting up to DJ via WINAMP
Thank you to Isadro and RanmaGuy for this guide!

1. Make sure you have Winamp installed. Available here free of charge: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php ... 9#download

2. Obtain the Shoutcast plugin, and install. Available for free from AL's server here - www.animeleague.net/shoutcast-dsp-2-2-1-windows.exe. Please use this version plugin as other plugins may cause the server to crash.

ONLY v2.2.1 will work on AL's Server. Any updated versions will crash the server.

Be sure to install Winamp first, and then make sure to run the shoutcast dsp file after the download finshes. You'll have to restart winamp after execution of the file.

3. Open up Winamp, and press CTRL+P. A window called Winamp Preferences should pop up. Go to plugins > DSP / Effect, and select the Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source plugin. A new window should pop up labeled Shoutcast Source.

4. Configure the plug-in according to this screenshot:

5. Click on the Yellowpages button and configure it accordingly:

- In the Description field, type in your DJ name and or name of your Radio show.
- For the URL field, type in http://www.animeleague.net
- In the Genre field, type Misc.
- You can leave the AIM/ICQ/IRC fields at their default values (don't touch them!).

6. Configure your stream settings by going to Encoder.

If your listeners experience skipping issues with your stream, change your Encoder Settings to a lower bitrate.

7. Go back to the Output tab, and hit the Connect button. If no one is currently on air, you should be able to connect successfully, where it says x bytes transmitted. The number goes up when you are successfully streaming. When you finish with your show, make sure you press "disconnect" - the connect button will turn into the disconnect button once you start streaming. If you do not disconnect, the DJ after you will not be able to do their show - so PLEASE remember to click "disconnect"!

PLEASE NOTE: To follow through with connecting to the server, you will need the Password. You will not receive this until you are ready to connect for you show.

If for any reason you are struggling with set-up, please do not hesitate to contact a Radio Moderator.

I'm interested but almost none of the links are working, as well as all of the images being "no longer available".
Everything Ok?
Control-click (or middle mouse click) to open links in new tab.
