Bandai Namco cancel Naruto and One Piece Game development.

Post by Ojisama » 16 Oct 2024, 21:47

Bandai Namco Holdings is reportedly making cuts to it's workforce after it has cancelled a number of games that had previously been in development.

An un-named game commissioned by Nintendo, as well as games within the Naruto and One Piece franchises have been cancelled, and the company is looking to reduce it's workforce by about 200 employees. This is nearly a sixth (about 15%) of it's total workforce of 1300.

The company has recently ended support for a number of smartphone games, with their online Blue Protocol game also having support withdrawn in January 2025. Blue Protocol was scheduled to have a Western release, but that has also now been canned.

The Synduality: Echo of Ada game is still expected to launch in January as part of a mixed-media franchise project that includes the Synduality: Noir TV anime.

Bandai Namco cancel Naruto and One Piece Game development.

I honestly don't understand Bandai. I know they have two departments: their toy distribution and the game side. I do feel the game side is failing in some way even though that is their biggest innovative part there are only so many plushies or figures you can make if you aren't selling the games.

These figures are more collectors items than play toy figures and do sell for a lot of money

Rich needs to visit the Bandai Namco shop in M/Hall. I'm hoping that they can sort out the licencing issue about Strike Witches figures, and get some in.
