That's not Sony, that's Discovery. They've been doing that with Amazon too. They bought Paramount and don't want their IP on any streaming platforms other than their own. There's not anything Sony can do about it.

Same thing is also happening in anime land with the CrunchyRoll/FUNimation merger.

Pirating is a fair response--if a product can't be owned, it can't really be stolen either, and it was always acceptable to produce a copy of a multimedia purchase as a personal backup. It's more complicated with DRM protected files, given that breaking DRM actually is illegal, but just ripping a DVD is legal, as is copying a file to another drive provided you're not selling it. You could also just get physical copies of everything you actually like and not deal with this at all.

All platforms have their games pirated. To blame one is to blame them all.

Buy legal stuff and don't worry about it.
