Erbium Malware distributed via game cheat codes

A new password-stealing malware called Erbium that is currently being distributed as fake cracks and cheats for popular video games is gaining popularity among cybercriminals.

On an infected machine, Erbium is capable of stealing data stored in either Chromium or Gecko-based web browsers including passwords, cookies, credit card data and autofill information. The malware is also able to steal data from a number of popular cryptocurrency wallets that offer browser extensions.

So far, Erbium infections have been detected in the U.S., France, Colombia, Spain, Italy, India, Vietnam and Malaysia

The staff on these forums work very hard to stop the intrusion of spammers offering links to cracking and cheating sites, but if you do see a post that seems to be suspicious, report it immediately, using the "!" button at the top of the post.

This kind of hacking is partly why I stopped PC gaming 20 years ago when the OG Xbox came out.

This kind of hacking is why I started cracking my own games :P
Modern games are fine, you can buy most of them. Finding a torrent for a game from 1995-2005 that is already pre-cracked is hard :/

You do know that's HIGHLY illegal under anti-Piracy laws right?!

Yes, I imagine it is. I don't distribute the cracks, its just so I could play the games I can't buy anymore and I'll happily defend that stance in any court if needed.
