Bad news for The Prince of Persia.

12 years ago, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was one of the most popular games around. Fans were delighted when a remake was announced in 2020, but less so when they saw the dodgy graphics in taster sessions. This led to the game being delayed, with launch dates in 2021 moving from January to March to June, and finally to "Sometime in 2022."

Now, it has been announced that it has changed developers completely, having been handed to Ubisoft Montreal, who developed the original game back in 2003. Unfortunately, this means that even the vague release date of "sometime" will now be pushed back even further.

On the bright side, at least if it's been handed to the original developers we should be able to see some more love put into it

In other news, after several high profile purchases of game development companies, rumours are circulating that Ubisoft itself may become the subject of a buyout. Several large private equity firms have been linked to a possible offer for control of the company.

Rumours are also abounding that the Guillemot family who started the company are also seeking funds to ensure that the company will come back into their full control. Yves Guillemot is the current CEO, but he and his family only own 22% of the voting stock.

Just how a power struggle at the top of the company will effect the games in development remains to be seen.
