Does anyone else miss how rude the villagers in Animal Crossing used to be. Don't get me wrong, I highly enjoy New Horizons, but the grumpies and the snobbies have been obliterated, leaving them vanilla.
Now, when I mean rudeness, I'm referring more to what you got in Wild World and City Folk, not so much the GC game. While the rudeness in the GC version did make me laugh, it also felt unrealistic for the setting, whereas the rudeness in Wild World and City Folk felt more natural and believable.
I remember Fang in Wild World yelling at me when I barge into his house. I remember characters like Rasher getting angry at me if I wouldn't do them a favor in City Folk, or demanding that I do them a favor. In Wild World I remember Amelia chastising me if I barged into her house, and being highly judgmental at times. Heck, I even remember one of the nicer animals, like Tangy, telling me that they "asked for something cool and this is not it," when I tried to find them something cool for them in City Folk. All of this made me laugh. And talk about cocky. In Wild World, Fang would often brag to me about how I was an inferior fisherman compared to him. I remember Rasher talking smack and spreading rumors about all the other villagers in City Folk; but he hardly does that anymore in New Horizons.
Then there was Pelly and Phyllis. I loved how they were polar opposites to each other, literally embodying the night and day personalities of their working schedule. Phyllis was always cranky and sarcastic, hating her job, which I loved, whereas as Pelly loved it. Now we have Isabelle, and she's so boring and bland and she just won't shut up. It's like they took away Blather's blathering because it annoyed people, but made Isabelle the blatherer instead. Except, I always found Blathers more amusing. And how I miss Resetti. I loved turning off my game without intentionally saving, just to see how far I could see him explode. It was glorious.
Animal Crossing New Horizons has a lot of good qualities that I love, but the characterization is lacking. I want the grumpies to be grumpy, the snobbies to be snobby, and the jocks (though I didn't talk much about them in this post) to be annoying again, like they were in Wild World and City Folk.

So New Horizons is my first animal crossing game that I have played, so I cant really make much of a comment tbh BUT I have seen videos of times where characters act a little savage towards players in past animal crossing games (by this I mean when a player doesnt save or whatever). I found some of them hilarious but I am pretty sure some are just edits lol. Either way, I think I do get where you are coming from.
However, I will say that I dont find characterisation that much of an issue imo. E.g. some snooty characters (cant speak for all, sadly) I find are actually snooty/classy etc. It does all depend on what you catch them saying really. The most rude thing ive heard from a villager actually came from Judy and she was judging the hell out of Muffy's dress sense which took me by surprise. So yeah, Im sure its hard to tell just from out experiences alone, it seems like it could be a mixed bag of opinions really.

WW had the best dialogue by FAR. In both CF and NL it became way too obvious that they were cutting down on the amount of dialogue, and NH is honestly just sad. Every personality feels like it only had a few lines each day? I have 3 peppy villagers, if I speak to them all twice a day I should be encountering only 2 different dialogues, it's crazy.
It's sad how even when you look at the code of the game, it's incredibly clear that the dialogue has dramatically fallen compared to earlier titles.

I agree that WW had the best dialogue. It was just so varied and different. However, though CF had some repetitive dialogue, it still had moments of brilliance that's missing from New Horizons.

Yeah, CF was still miles better than NH, and NL was slightly better. It's definitely deteriorated over each game, which is really sad! New features shouldn't take away from the importance of villagersJongriffin wrote: ↑05 Nov 2021, 04:14GraceMellody wrote: ↑04 Nov 2021, 16:35WW had the best dialogue by FAR.
