at what point are they actually useful enough to make a difference?

Well, you get a cps bonus from one of the heavenly upgrades for just having up to 100 of them around. The farm one is nice enough, I think you can get like 44% cps bonus from the biggest farm plot full of wheat. The cursor one is pretty good at higher levels. And after that its useful for grimore to refill mana for getting golden cookie combos.

I’m past where I was in at my first ascension now but I still seem to be progressing a fair bit so gonna wait to ascend again

So I got around 120 sexdecillion cookies by idling for 2 weeks. I played a bit for 2 days doing combos and got to around 800 sexdecillion cookies...

And I just got a neat combo and went up to 12.929 septendecillion cookies... Oh how neat active gameplay is...

Oh, no doubt about it. I just never got this far without resorting to cheating so I'm stoked to think I might actually finish all the achievements this time.
