What's your favorite failed console?
The WonderSwan... not sure if it was released over in the UK, but I have a Final Fantasy 2 limited-edition WonderSwan console but heard that it pretty much flopped in Japan/America... I could be dead wrong, who knows ^^;

While these days I'm extremely wary of information from using Wikipedia it does say "no variation of the WonderSwan was ever released outside of Japan." Makes me wonder, can you read Japanese? I wish I did. ><melanch0lic wrote: ↑15 Nov 2020, 01:18The WonderSwan... not sure if it was released over in the UK, but I have a Final Fantasy 2 limited-edition WonderSwan console but heard that it pretty much flopped in Japan/America... Yeah the WonderSwan was Japanese only.
I generally list it as failed but in fairness it did better than most of the other handhelds that competed with the GB/GBC/GBA. In fact, I think the Game Gear was the only Game Boy family competitor that did better than the WonderSwan.
It probably would have done even better but Bandai was a mess at the time and had just had a failed merger attempt with Sega, who they had wanted to help them support the system (which is funny considering how fucking incompetent Sega was at supporting their own systems).
Also the original version of the WS released as a monochrome system like half a year after the GBC came out. They should have gone with color to begin with.
The Swan had the best limited editions. There was also a FF1 version, Digimon versions and Gundam versions. I've got the red Char's Zaku II Gundam one.

How many games did they make for it? Out of curiosity I just want to know.

188
Actually more monochrome than color. 102 were B&W and 86 were color. Unlike the Neo Geo Pocket, where the B&W model was abandoned almost immediately.

Yes as a matter of fact it is.
There was going to be a Ramba Ral model too but it kept blowing up.

Shout-out to the N-Gage QD and the Virtual Boy.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

It's between the Dreamcast, Wii and PS Vita, i used to love playing Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast, the Wii was great for Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter and then the PS Vita allowed me to play Invizimals which was the best game of my childhood and was essentially Pokemon Go before Pokemon Go was even thought of.

Isn't the Wii one of the most successful consoles of all time? It sold over 100 million units and was honestly amazing.
I never had any "failed" consoles, but in hindsight I've kept seeing interesting (anime specific) games pop up that are only for the PS Vita. I get the feeling that console was very overrated.

I had never heard of it before I saw it at one of the London ComicCons a fair few years ago, it's a cool little console but it's a shame it wasn't released anywhere outside of Japan, I'll have to take a picture of mine for people to see for reference as it's one of my favourite bits of Final Fantasy memorabilia that I own ^_^
EDIT: here it is! I've never taken it out of the box or anything as it's rare as fuck and one of the favourite consoles that I own, I loves it :3

That is GOLDEN!!! I want one but idk what I'd do with it. ^^; I mean if it's that rare it's best not to take it out and use it but I can never leave my stuff alone like that. lol I always gotta fiddle with everything I get. XD Used to break so much stuff but I'm older and ... more careful at least. Whether or not I'm wiser is debatable. >.>;melanch0lic wrote: ↑18 Nov 2020, 01:09Heyitslaurenk wrote: ↑17 Nov 2020, 10:25melanch0lic wrote: ↑15 Nov 2020, 01:18The WonderSwan... not sure if it was released over in the UK, but I have a Final Fantasy 2 limited-edition WonderSwan console but heard that it pretty much flopped in Japan/America...
